Jesus heals up the broken hearted

Sometimes we just have to reach the bottom and be broken before the Lord can do a work in us! Gary Young has a bible ministry at the Ocean Beach wall and has been giving out free bibles, witnessing about Jesus, praying and doing ministry in the same location for over 20 years! I am blessed to have an opportunity to minister with him and see God doing his work!

That particular day, Gary asked me to come down to the wall and minister with him as he often does. Bless his heart. A young gal in her early twenties approached, waited to talk to me since others had stopped and had engaged in conversation. It was about 8 pm and Gary and I were planning to leave. She waited ’till everyone left. She looked distressed and and her eyes had dark circles around them like you would see when someone needed sleep. She asked if she could talk to me. I welcomed her to sit beside me and chat.

Her name was Nina and she was had a disturbing story that tore at my heart strings… She told me she was put in jail as a child for a crime she never committed. She pulled out some pictures showing her as a child in the police car with several other young children. It was hard to converse with her… She was angry, broken and her sentences were incoherent and emotional… She cried as often as she spoke. Repeatedly she told me that she couldn’t understand why this had happened to her… She went over and over this. I listened intently and tried consoling her but it was very difficult since I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. It was if she didn’t hear me… She was in a bad state of mind.

As I listened, her story seemed surreal I thought . Was it was entirely true? I decided that the details really didn’t matter… All I knew was there was a young lady in front of me desperately reaching out for help and the Lord had brought her to me specifically to get the help she needed! Out of all the people in Ocean Beach, why did she pick me unless the Lord led her to me?

I had to interrupt her many times so I could ask her questions. Finally I asked her if she wanted to be set free from her past… She said “Yes please!” in a painful sounding voice. I knew that I couldn’t offer her what the world could offer her… gold and silver (Acts 3:6-16) or a place to stay, but I could pray with her for salvation and in the name of Jesus Christ to be healed and set free from her afflictions of the past! I told her it was no mistake that she chose to talk to me! I told Nina that there is in fact someone who loves her and wants to take care of all her needs all the time! She told me she wanted to meet him! I told her I knew him personally and he helped me daily as I traveled 2500 miles across the US on a bicycle! I led her in a salvation prayer and she asked Jesus into her life to take care of her too. If she waited here long enough and continued to read the bible and kept her mind on his word and not her past, he would surely come to her! She was desperate and agreed to do so.
I left her as she sat at the wall reading her bible and asking Jesus to come. I noticed by now it had been a half an hour and she had calmed down considerably. It was evident the Lord had begun to do his mighty work on her! I left encouraged and praising God for his salvation, mercy, grace and kindness! Thank you Jesus!

Lamentations 3:25 (NKJV) – The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

Psalm 147:3 (NKJV) – He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV) – Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
