I met Bruce while playing guitar and singing at the San Diego harbour. He passed by me and stopped to listen. He approached me about my traveler’s guitar, a conversation piece since most people have never seen a guitar of this type. We chatted for awhile and he asked me about my ministry. While sharing with him, he became silent and then began to weep. I was deeply saddened by what he told me.
His story goes like this…. Recently Bruce was pulled from his car, mugged, then beat up left on the street with fractures, bruises and scars. I also learned he is a recovering alcoholic who lost his wife to her first husband. He used to be a nurse as a profession. As a result of these tragedies, his life is now in turmoil as is now living on the the streets of San Diego in his car. *(See report below about “Homelessness in San, Diego, CA)
I asked if he was a Christian. He said he was but didn’t know if he was saved. I explained Jesus’s salvation according to the bible as a personal relationship which involves repentance of sin, acceptance of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us and ultimately receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit who reveals God’s plan for each person’s life (John 14:26). He was eager to receive tongues (Acts 8:17) to hear what the spirit says (Rev. 3:22) for guidance and protection for each day of his life (Mark 16:17).
Together we prayed for Bruce to have his sins forgiven and to receive Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. We prayed for the Holy Spirit to come and live in his heart and for his prayer language. Bruce received his tongues languages as the Holy Spirit enabled him (Acts 2:4). I encouraged him to pray in the Spirit daily as the apostle Paul did (Ephesians 6:18, 1 Cor 14:18). He embraced and thanked me over and over again. As he was leaving, I was led to ask him if he had any other needs. He told me he needed money for food and shelter. I was able to give him the tips I made from playing at the harbour from the day.
Also I asked Bruce if I could take a picture of him for my blog. I mentioned to him there are now over 70 followers who receive my Cycling4Jesus blog posts and pray for those posted. He agreed to allow for his picture. Bruce is asking that you please pray for him in Jesus name. God bless you as pray!
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
